Suspect had a gun and had just shot. I'm thinking the cop didn't mean to plow through that wall, but...

Maybe speed was excessive, but the guy had stolen the gun and fired it. Possible shootout averted. He may have wanted the cops to kill him anyway.

Skip to around 1:55 for carnage.
Are we sure that guy isn't dead?

I'm usually the first to hate on the cops when they pull bullshit, but I think that this was a pretty appropriate response to a guy stealing a gun and firing at people. Pretty sure that John McClane was driving.

I read the story, so I know what happened. It's just that the cops in the US seem to be more than happy about using way to much force way to often.. But this time it was probably "O.K".

Sir_Stig: and toxic masculinity ruins the party again.

Yeah, I'm usually the first to bitch about US cops, but this guy pulled some awesome right there and probably saved the guy's life. It's better than a shootout, that's for sure.

was that an actual plan in effect? just run him over? the guy was threatening suicide so they just drove into him at 30 mph?
where's a link to the whole story? seems like if he were white, they'd have tried to talk him into putting the gun down.

With acceleration like that, it should have been a Camry.

read it. so question remains...is that the plan? "if you see man with gun, run him over"? due process? excessive force? no "put the gun down" or "put your hands in the air"?

The first officer had been following the guy for a few blocks, yelling instructions through the car's speaker, which the suspect ignored. The suspect was carrying the rifle and alternatively waving it around or pointing it at his own face.
What the cop did was fairly dumb and dangerous, however approaching the suspect may have been more dangerous.

If you want to use excessive force against someone on foot, a Crown Vic is an excellent tool for the job.
